Chili’s Grill & Bar

Chili’s Grill & Bar (also referred to simply as “Chili’s”) is an American casual dining restaurant chain that features Tex-Mex-style cuisine. The company was founded by Larry Lavine in Dallas, Texas in 1975. The restaurant’s name is derived from its signature dish, chili con queso.

Chili’s was founded by Larry Lavine in 1975. Lavine was born in Houston, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in business administration. After graduation, he began working in the restaurant industry, eventually becoming a partner in a successful chain of Steak and Ale restaurants.

In 1975, Lavine was approached by a group of investors who were interested in opening a new type of restaurant concept in Dallas. The first Chili’s Grill & Bar opened its doors on March 13, 1975, on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. The restaurant was an instant success, and a second location soon followed in Arlington, Texas.
